BETHLEHEM—Freedom High School defeated cross-town rival, and longtime nemesis, Liberty 45-42 when senior place-kicker Sean Wrobel kicked a 35-yard field goal after Okezie Alozie recovered a fumble on Liberty's 16-yard line with less than a half minute remaining.
The last time the Patriots defeated the Hurricanes was in 2002. The win meant Freedom, under 7th year coach Jason Roeder, qualified for the Districts 4A sub-regional playoff, by knocking both Liberty and Whitehall out of the district playoffs.
Penalties and turnovers plagued both teams, but Freedom racked up almost 600 yards in total offense, behind quarterback Brian Uliana (10 of 18 passing for 224 yards) including four touchdowns to wide receiver Frank Busci.
In the District 11 playoffs, No. 6 Freedom, lost to No. 3 Easton 35-28. Easton met Nazareth in the finals. |
